Professor Theo Davies Department of Mining and Environmental Geology

Formerly Councillor and Trustee of the Geological Society of London (1996 – 2000), he is presently Regional Councillor for Africa of the Association of Applied Geochemists (AAG). His major research interests centre around the role of selenium in HIV/AIDS diffusion in southern Africa and environmental health impacts of major and abandoned mines in sub-Saharan Africa. Professor Davies has published widely in various aspects of Environmental and Medical Geology of Africa, and is an Associate Editor of the journals ‘Environmental Geosciences’ and ‘Journal of African Earth Sciences’. Major awards include one from the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany.
