Kim H. Esbensen, Ph.D, is research professor in Geoscience Data Analysis and Sampling at GEUS (National Geological Surveys of Denmark and Greenland), external chemometrics professor with the ACABS research group, Aalborg University, Denmark and external professor (Process Analytical Technologies) at Telemark Institute of Technology, Norway. He was professor extraordinaire at Stellenbosch University (Institute of Wine Biotechnology) in the period 2005-2010. Esbensen was awarded an honorary Doctorate at Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT) in 2005. In 2009 he was inducted into the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences (ATV). A geologist/geochemist/data analyst of training and experience, since 2001 he has devoted most of his scientific and R&D to the theme of representative sampling of heterogeneous systems and PAT (Process Analytical Technology) respectively. He is a member of the International Chemometrics Society, the international sampling community, the International Medical Geology Association (IMGA) & three other scientific organizations. Esbensen is a longstanding contributor to R&D in applied chemometrics, acoustic chemometrics, multivariate image analysis (MIA), representative sampling in science (geochemistry, environmental science, medical geology), PAT and industry and has also contributed to applied biotechnology/bioenergy. He has given more than 300 lectures/courses, published 175+ papers, is the author of a leading chemometric textbook and has four other didactic book chapters to his credit. He is chairman of the taskforce DS-Forum 205 responsible for writing the world’s first horizontal (matrix-independent) sampling standard, launched Aug. 2013.
