David C. Elliott, Ph.D., F.G.S., P. Geol, worked in the petroleum industry for 45 years, in several countries, before settling in Canada over 30 years ago, and is currently Chief Petroleum Advisor for the Alberta Securities Commission.  He has degrees in Geology, Geochemistry, and Mathematics, and extensive industry training in petroleum engineering

He has a particular interest in oil and gas resource evaluation and classification, especially the statistical aspects, and is a Vice-Chair of the UNECE Expert Group on Resource Classification.  Professional society memberships include the SPE Canada, SPEE (Calgary), Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists, American Association of Petroleum Geology, Geological Society of London, and he is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists, and Geophysicists of Alberta. He has a long standing interest in environmental geology and is a founding member, and the newsletter editor, of the International Medical Geology Association.

Outside the workplace he likes to keep in shape in the gym, enjoys outdoor activities, and is also a keen amateur artist.
