We are also currently developing an online course in Medical Geology.

The IMGA online course in Medical Geology aims to provide the participant with the background information to better understand the relationship between naturally occurring elements in our environment and health outcomes, and of factors affecting this relationship.

By the end of this course the student will

    • Have an understanding of how elements occurring naturally in our environment can affect health
    • Have a basic knowledge of the toxicity and essentiality of naturally occurring elements
    • Have an increased understanding of considerations required in medical geology risk assessments
    • Have an increased understanding of the importance of sampling materials, methods and interpretation
    • Have a basic understanding of the importance of bioaccessibility, bioavailability and speciation with regard to naturally occurring elements
    • Understand how the geological and health sciences can work together to solve health issues related to exposure to naturally occurring elements
