International Conference on Heavy Metal Poisoning, with special reference to the Zamfara crisis
January 11-12, 2012, Abuja, Nigeria

Since March 2010, MSF has been responding to an unprecedented lead poisoning crisis in Zamfara State, northern Nigeria. The response has included admitting more than 2000 children into MSF’s lead poisoning treatment programme, and the remediation of lead-contaminated villages. MSF and its partners in the Zamfara lead poisoning response will be hosting a 2-day meeting to disseminate knowledge on the medical and environmental lessons learned while containing and treating this crisis. Speakers will present data and analysis derived from their field operations since March 2010. Other expert participants will complement this with presentations on incidents of heavy metal poisoning in other global contexts.

This 2-day interdisciplinary conference is an opportunity for toxicologists, environmental scientists, public health officials, and epidemiologists, along with representatives from governments and international NGOs, to meet and discuss epidemiological, clinical, and environmental approaches to combating large-scale heavy metal poisoning.

The 4th International Congress of ECSSS
2-6 July, Bari, Italy

The International Congress EUROSOIL 2012 is the 4th of the Series after the very successful ones held in Reading, UK, in 2000, Freiburg, Germany, in 2004, and Wien, Austria, in 2008.

The general theme of EUROSOIL 2012 “SOIL SCIENCE FOR THE BENEFIT OF MANKIND AND ENVIRONMENT” aims to encompass several aspects and to offer ample opportunity to explore many issues of current Soil Sciences. The main objective of the scientific programme and structure of the Congress is to provide an interactive forum of exchange of ideas by bringing together and establishing durable and strict relationships among older and younger soil scientists and researchers, technical and professional operators, industry and administrative representatives, policy makers and regulators operating in the field of Soil Sciences.

The Call-for-Abstracts of the forthcoming Eurosoil 2012 Conference held in Bari, Italy, from July 2nd to 6th, 2012, is now open. For more information, please visit:  http://www.eurosoil2012.eu/d/1/The_Congress/

► 架设中国与世界沟通的桥梁 ◄

The 2012 Sino-European Symposium on Environment and Health (SESEH 2012) provides an international platform for interaction between scientists, consultants, and public servants engaged in the multi-disciplinary areas of environment and health. With the fast economic growth, the importance of environment and health is widely recognized in China, and China welcomes international experts for collaboration. This symposium provides an opportunity for a direct communication between experts from China and the rest of the world, and helps to foster and develop international collaborations with China, the 2nd largest economy of the world. All Chinese, European and international experts are welcome to attend! For more information see http://www.nuigalway.ie/seseh2012/index.html

The conference is co-organized by GIS Centre of NUI Galway, The Geographical Society of China (www.gsc.org.cn) and Environmental Sciences Association of Ireland (ISAI, www.esaiweb.org), supported by Ryan Institute of NUI Galway (www.ryaninstitute.ie), Society for Environmental Geochemistry and Health (SEGH, www.segh.net), International Medical Geology Association (IMGA, www.medicalgeology.org), Geographical Society of Ireland (www.ucd.ie/gsi), Ireland Chinese Association of Environment, Resources & Energy (ICAERE, www.icaere.ie) and National Centre for Geocomputation (ncg.nuim.ie).

Health & Hydrogeology Conference
Understanding the impact of groundwater on people

Groundwater is a vital resource, providing drinking water for over a billion people worldwide.
It can also provide a pathway for contaminants to migrate which harm human health.
This conference brings together leading academics, regulators and consultants to discuss
known and emerging groundwater pollutants and the potential implication for human health in the UK and beyond.

This conference also incorporates the 2012 National Ground Water Association (USA) Darcy Lecture
given by Professor S. Majid Hassanizadeh, Utretcht University. This will be held at the end of the conference.

Annual International Conference on Geological & Earth Sciences (GEOS 2012). 3-4 December 2012.
Hotel Fort Canning, Singapore

As the only life-bearing planet, Earth provides resources and the exact conditions to make life possible.
However, with the advent of technology and industrialization, the Earth's resources are being pushed to
the brink of depletion. Non-sustainable industrial practices are not only endangering the supply of the Earth's
natural resources, but are also putting burden on life itself by bringing about pollution and climate change.

A major role of earth science scholars is to examine the delicate balance between the Earth's resources
and the growing demands of industrialization. Through research and development, earth scientists have the
power to preserve the planet's different resource domains by providing expert opinion and information about the
forces which make life possible on Earth.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

Mineralogy, Petrology, Geochemistry, Geomorphology, Paleontology, Stratigraphy, Structural Geology, Economic Geology
Geohydrology, Engineering Geology, Environmental Geology, Remote Sensing & GIS applications in Earth Sciences, Exploration,
Development and Production of Earth Resources, Mineral Processing, Waste Management & Recycling

Seismology, Rock Mechanics Applied to Seismology, Dynamic Tectonics, Earthquake and Structural Engineering

Climatology, Climate Change and Global Warming, Biogeography, Meteorology, Paleogeography
